Middletown Community Foundation Scholarships are primarily available to students who live in the greater area of Middletown, Ohio or attend one of the seven schools located within the service area of the Middletown Community Foundation: Bishop Fenwick, Edgewood, Franklin, Madison, Middletown, Middletown Christian or Monroe High Schools. We have a few scholarships which are also available to other schools within Butler, Warren, Preble and Hamilton Counties. The criteria vary by scholarship and were set by the original donor of each scholarship. We ask for financial information from all of the applicants for our scholarships. If you are only applying for AK Steel Sons and Daughters and/or Louie Cox, you will not be asked to fill out financial information. If you are a student applying for either AK Foundation Supported scholarship and live in our service area, we strongly encourage you to apply for our scholarships as well. It’s all one application, and not much more work!

To complete the online application for Middletown Community Foundation Scholarships, you will need to assemble:

·         A copy of your 7 Semester Transcript. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THIS FROM YOUR COUNSELOR UNTIL JANUARY.  Please be aware that if you submit a 6 semester transcript, the site will allow you to continue and submit your application, however, when the judges review your application it will be rejected as INCOMPLETE, because you did not give the judges the correct document.

·         A copy of your Student ACT Report (What is this? Click here to see an example: Example ACT)

·         A copy of your Student Aid Report which you received from FAFSA (What is this? Click here to see an example: EXAMPLE FAFSA)

·         Answer these essay questions :

o   Why did you choose your stated major? If undecided, please tell us in which area of interest you think you might focus. What are your future career plans?

o   Describe an event or person or experience that has impacted who you are.

o   Describe something you would have done differently in High School. Project what the outcome might have been.

o   Are there any extenuating circumstances that affect your family's ability to contribute to your college expenses? (If applicable) describe the extenuating circumstances and provide details explaining the financial impact on the family.

·         Print these releases, sign them and have your parents sign them so they are ready to upload:

o   High School and College Records Release

o   Media Release

·         Have a current high resolution picture to upload

If you are a student intending to major in the natural sciences, you may be eligible for the Audubon Society Scholarship (students intending to major in medicine, dentistry or nursing are not eligible). If you intend to apply for the Audubon Society Scholarship, you must have two people fill out the Audubon Society Confidential Reference Form on your behalf and mail or email it directly to our offices. Download the form here (.pdf) or (.docx)

Once you have submitted the application, you will be able to see the scholarships for which you are qualified. At this point, you may see that some of the scholarships for which you are eligible require further submissions: letters of reference, additional essays or uploads. You may choose not to complete those additional requirements, but you will not be considered for those scholarships.

The MIDDLETOWN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION online application must be complete by February 15 at 11:59 PM.

Your application will be scored and awarded up to 50 points for academics as follows: up to 20 points for your 7 semester unweighted cumulative GPA, up to 20 points for your ACT (or SAT) score, and up to 10 points for academic rigor.

We will be conducting interviews with students this year during the week of February 27-March 3. Not everyone will be asked to interview.  All applications will still be considered for our scholarships. You will be notified by April 30th of your status.

If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be required to sign an award agreement and return it to us. You will also be required to fill out information regarding your choice of school and the address of the bursar’s or outside financial aid office (where the check should be sent), give us your student ID number to ensure that the funds are applied properly to your account, and submit a thank-you letter online to the donor of your scholarship. You must complete these requirements before June 15th. Failure to do any of these things by that date will result in loss of scholarship.

If you have a renewable scholarship, you will be notified in May of renewal requirements via email. It is vitally important that you maintain and update your email account. All renewals requirements will be submitted through  https://mcfoundation.awardspring.com If you do not have an account set up by April 2017, or have not been contacted regarding renewals by May 15 of the current year, please contact our offices. For renewal you will ne

  • ·         To maintain a minimum GPA (the default is 2.0 unless another minimum has been set by the donor). You will be required to upload your most current grades showing your cumulative GPA in order to renew. If your cumulative GPA falls below the threshold for your scholarship, we may at MCF’s sole discretion HOLD your scholarship for a semester until you bring your grades up, provided you (1) turn all renewal paperwork in by the June 15 due date, and (2) send us an updated transcript after your fall semester grades come in. Be aware that we will not remind you to send these grades, you must remember to do this on your own.

    ·         To write a narrative of at least 500 words describing your school experience over the last year and updating us on your progress.

If your scholarship is based on a specific field of study, you will need to reaffirm your major with us. Unfortunately, change of major will result in loss of these scholarships, as we must follow the wishes of our donors.

    ·         If you have a need based scholarship, you will be asked to upload your most current FAFSA as well as provide us with a current University Award Letter.

All items must be submitted by June 15th to continue your scholarship. You must complete these requirements before June 15th. Failure to do any of these things by that date will result in loss of scholarship. Extensions may be granted in special circumstances, but these are rare. You MUST contact our offices prior to the deadline if this is the case.

Payment will be made directly to the school of your choice sometime in mid-July. You will be notified via email once payment has been sent.
